An avantgarde serif with a mild horror theme. It takes advantage of the properties of antialiasing/text smoothing algorithms to render a convincingly handmade aesthetic.
Making attractive, consistent, nonpixel serif designs at this grid size is quite a challenge. Making them look handmade is even moreso. I've tried that many times, but this design is the first such one I felt was truly usable. It doesn't quite look typewriter-esque, but blends well with other designs that are.
For this I used many different serif shapes, with each one depending on how the line it was attached to wanted to bend or terminate. This is in contrast to most other serif designs I've seen, in which the serifs themselves are more consistent in shape. I decided against faux-bezier curves for this, because they all looked way too polygonal. I think this is one of few cases where a rectangular O and S enhance the overall design rather than weakening it.

"Xenopyre" is an anagram of "Pyroxene", in much the same way as this design is an analogue of Basalt.
This started out as something diamondy and piratey, then turned a bit gothy before finally becoming a bit tridenty or perhaps even braziery. Ya feel me? I'm comin' atcha LIVE from this font description box.
This works best as a display font for short phrases. The name comes from the story by George G. Toudouze. If you went to public school in the USA, you've likely read the story.
An experimental logotype and another attempt to create a distinctive design in 2x2. Some words look better than others... it's best for 1-2 word phrases rather than body text.
"B", "P", and "R" are compromise designs... no satisfactory way exists to create their curves while maintaining the optimal line width, so their counters were filled a bit to give them the same sense of solidity as the other letters.
A "denghon" is a giant, many-limbed, extradimensional creature found throughout my games, especially ESOS.
I went against a few of my own conventions for this one. The close spacing might look a bit strange at times, but it eliminates the need for kerning while also creating a unique look. The overlapping spurs make me think of thorny plants!
This is an original design, but it does make me think of Planescape: Torment when I look at it, thus the name!
An extension of ideas present in "Gehenna".
Experimental brush/pen thing. Has a slightly spooky look. Because of their tapering curves, many glyphs can render with a "split" or "stencil" look about them. This is due to software-imposed limitations on vector rendering. Designs which share this property can be considered Pseudostencils.
This design is not informed or inspired by any existing typographical traditions. I set out to make the "claw" bricks (as I call them) into a font and this is the result.
An inverted alternate version of Spiderling that's glitch-free... for now, at least!
I think this doesn't look nearly as spider-like as the original... your mileage may vary...
A sunburst pattern was converted to negative space, resulting in little spiders!
SPOOKY GHOST FONT. A work in progress. Getting the right spooky apparition look is pretty intensive, but I managed to finish the basic character set before Halloween. :D
This started as a 5x5 design. After realizing S and Z would look far better if I made them 1 square taller, I converted the whole font to be roughly 5x6. At this low resolution, it's hard to get the degree of irregularity which I think makes these letters look ghostly... but, the idea is certainly present!
This design seems like it'd fit in with a lot of horror and science fiction stuff, too. Apart from the "smoky"/"ghostly" look, it has a "melted" one which suggests a hot place or maybe immersion in acid. It also looks a bit like slime, and finally at smaller sizes it has a glitch-esque appearance.
Just a chip off the ol' block.... or the ol' shoulder :^)

A gnarled, pointy design which fits into many historical periods and aesthetics. It makes me think of Wild West woodtype and gargoyles.
I attempted a blackletter style without any knowledge or references. The result reminds me of a vampire's writing!
The name "Dethzmezenger / Death's Messenger" comes from one of many old joke bands which I created.

Drawing and editing these takes more time and effort than most other forms of pixel art. Don't expect them to look perfect without some time and effort from YOU, as well. An effect like this requires hand adjustment of every part at every stage.
The coloring, infill color, and effects you use with this font make a drastic difference as to what looks are evoked by its shapes! Scroll down for lots of examples. :^)

This font is based off the theme 'Wicked'. This is just a draft, but it is a complete set so I will leave it up to show my progress. This font uses spooky dead trees to make letter forms. This was not intended to have anything to do with Halloween, but the full set of characters was completed on this fateful 31st. Feedback is welcome!
